A Senior Systems Engineer opportunity within a telecom technology and managed services organisation supporting mission-critical platforms for telecommunications operators.
The role sits within a small, highly skilled operations team where the engineer takes ownership of complex telecom infrastructure, signalling platforms, and customer-facing technical operations. Working closely with operators and internal stakeholders, the individual will be responsible for designing, implementing, maintaining, and optimising carrier-grade services while ensuring high levels of reliability and performance.
Key responsibilities include:
• Designing and implementing new telecom services and platform enhancements
• Troubleshooting complex issues across signalling, networking, and infrastructure environments
• Managing Linux-based server infrastructure, networking, routing, firewalls, and VPN connectivity
• Configuring and maintaining Cisco networking equipment
• Supporting database operations and optimisation activities
• Deploying and maintaining physical infrastructure including servers, fibre connectivity, and network hardware
• Monitoring platform health and ensuring service continuity across critical environments
• Participating in a 24/7 on-call support rotation
• Working directly with customers to analyse requirements and deliver technical solutions
The ideal profile will bring:
• Strong experience with telecom signalling protocols including SIP, SS7, Diameter, INAP, and ENUM
• Deep Linux administration expertise (RedHat / Rocky Linux environments)
• Hands-on experience with networking, routing, VLANs, VPNs, and firewall configuration
• Experience managing Cisco switches, routers, and security appliances
• Strong SQL database knowledge, including query design and optimisation
• Excellent troubleshooting skills within complex, high-availability production environments
• The ability to communicate effectively with both technical teams and customers
Desirable experience includes:
• Apache, Tomcat, and SSL configuration
• OpenVPN, SMTP, and SNMP
• Monitoring and alerting platforms
• Backup and recovery solutions
• Virtualisation technologies
• Scripting and automation
